Nearly every week someone writes to tell me and John of a Blue Ridge find in their area. It is exciting to know that people are discovering this treasure chest of china history which I hold so dear. While many Blue Ridge pieces hold sentimental value for their owners, some accrue a more monetary value due to a special feature. Today’s special feature under discussion: Signed Artists’ Plates. Yes, these are definitely a valuable addition to any collection. Most Blue Ridge pieces were not signed by their creators; instead the artists were relatively anonymous as they handpainted each piece. Still some artists would dabble in their spare time and create designs which were usually one of a kind. The finishing touch which created the piece de resistance: an actual signature. Ah, to have such a plate in your collection! One can only dream…
